Lord: “Ned Without A Doubt My Best Dog Yet”

CHAMPION trainer Andy Lord has declared "without a doubt" Bandit Ned was the best dog he has put a collar and lead on.

The multiple Sydney premiership winning trainer has put the polish on many superstars, including current day champion She's A Pearl.

Bandit Ned ran his final race on Monday night when fracturing a hock in a heat of the Nowra Million Dollar Chase qualifiers.

"When it comes to ability, he's the best dog I've trained," Lord said. "Without a doubt.

"People say he was a bit funny but funny dogs don't win 20 of their first 30 starts when the vast majority of those runs were in Group company.

"He just had a racing style that he liked. He did what he had to do.

"He was a very smart and cunning dog. I've never had one like him."

Bandit Ned will undergo surgery to repair the hock in the coming days and will be retired to the couch.

The son of Fernando Bale ends his career with 22 wins from 41 starts with career earnings of more than $220,000.

"Even though he was only lightly raced he never raced in a normal race that dog," Lord said.

"He started in Group company and ended up in Group company. Not many dogs can do that.

"You go and look at his first 10 or so starts.

"He won the Magic Maiden, he won the Nowra Puppy Classic, he won the Gosford Goldmine and then won the Vic Peters.

"He only raced against the best dogs and not many have done that."

Lord didn't need to think twice to identify his favourite Bandit Ned win.

On October 16, 2021, at Wentworth Park, he clocked 29.47 seconds when winning the Group 1 Vic Peters Classic.

"He had a dog sitting on his hammer called Zipping Kansas," he said. "He didn't make ground on him."

Lord hasn't ruled out a stud career but said the phone would need to ring.

"I've had a couple of inquiries and he is very well bred on the dam side," he said.

"His grand dam is an imported bitch called J's Robin.

"She was the only bitch that was an All American Team Leader. She was a freak.

"There will have to be some good inquiries or I wouldn't bother."
