Oh Mickey Ruled Out Of Maturity Classic

MULTIPLE Group winner Oh Mickey's chances of running in the Group 1 Maturity Classic have been derailed after suffering a minor injury while galloping.

Mick Zammit, spokesman for his wife Selena who trains the dog, said Oh Mickey (Fernando Bale-Iona Champion) had slightly hurt a foot while galloping up Capalaba early in the week.

“It's not bad,” said Mick. “He galloped on the wire along which the lure runs up the straight on at Capalaba.

“But it's bad enough to set him back for a few days and thus miss an important trial at The Meadows in preparation for the Maturity series.

“We would still like him to go to Melbourne, maybe for a trial or two to set him up for the big races coming up later in the year.”

Oh Mickey was never a hope when last in the Group 1 Brisbane Cup at Albion Park last week after being in trouble at the start.

He has won 15 of his 23 starts and $197,000 for owner Clint Kratzmann.

His wins include the Group 1 National Derby and Group 2 Richmond Derby. At 29.45 he is one of the fastest ever around Albion Park.
