‘Once In A Lifetime': Amron Boy Retired

DUAL group 1 winning superstar Amron Boy - one of the most gifted chasers to race of his generation - has been retired from racing.

DUAL group 1 winning superstar Amron Boy – one of the most gifted chasers of his generation – has been retired.

Jamie Ennis, who trains in partnership with wife Brooke, made the decision over the weekend after the powerhouse son of Zambora Brockie failed to finish in last Thursday night's Group 2 Cranbourne Cup Final at Sandown Park.

"He pulled the money muscle right off the bone, it's as bad as I've seen," Ennis said.

"And he did the back muscle as well which I'd say was an extension of doing the money (muscle).

"At the end of the day he's got nothing left to prove and why it would have been good to have one more spring run with him he's given us a great ride.”

Winner at 23 of his 57 starts with a further 19 placings for $674,205 in prize money, Amron Boy's Group 1 triumphs came via stirring performances in the Harrison-Dawson (2023) and Silver Chief (2022).

Yet despite all of his successful career highlights, it was the 11-time group finalists narrow second to Wow She's Fast in last year's The Phoenix that Ennis declared as his best.

"He didn't win but that was the standout for me," Ennis said.

"In the run he lost lengths and had no right to finish as close as he did to Wow She's Fast. I was really proud that night.

“It would have been great to get to the race again this year and there had been some interest in him but it wasn't meant to be.”

After debuting at Sandown Park in February 2022 with a 15 ¼ length maiden romp in 29.32, Amron Boy, a son of Zambora Brockie and Miami Fernando, won his first five straight by an aggregate of 35 lengths, announcing his arrival as a budding superstar of the sport.

Not long after Ennis stepped his star prospect up to group race company where he never looked back, racing almost exclusively in big events throughout his career.

"I think that's a big tick for his stud career; he's raced in group company right the way through," Ennis said.

Star sprinter Amron Boy has been retired following a decorated career

"He's got the right temperament for a stud dog, is the right size, is a great chaser so he really ticks every box. I can't wait to use him myself.

With slashing best times at Sandown Park and The Meadows of 29.00 and 29.45, few rival Amron Boy in terms of ability.

Along with his Group 1 triumphs, Amron Boy retires with a Group 3 Showdown victory and runner-up efforts in a Group 1 Temlee, Group 3 Silver Bullet, Group 2 Flying Amy Classic and The Phoenix.

"For me I rate him right next to My Bro Fabio as the best dogs I've had.

“Ones like him don't come around very often.”
