Plaintiff Storms Into MDC Calculations

PRODIGIOUS youngster Plaintiff has stormed into TAB Million Dollar calculations with a blistering win in the Temora Regional Final on Tuesday.

PRODIGIOUS youngster Plaintiff has stormed into TAB Million Dollar calculations with a blistering win in the Temora Regional Final (457m) on Tuesday.

Winner of 11 from 21 career appearances, the son of Zambora Brockie booked his place in the MDC semi-finals at Wentworth Park on September 16 with a comprehensive 3 ¼ length victory in 25.80.

Until now the Jason Thompson-trained speedster has flown relatively under the radar.

That's despite boasting an enviable resume which includes victory in the Group 3 Vic Breeders Maiden, a bold second to Wow She's Fast in the Launching Pad and a finals berth in both the Group 1 Maturity Classic and Warragul St. Leger.

"To be a genuine chance in the series I thought he needed to win like he did today – I thought it was one of his best career wins," Thompson said.

"He got posted wide through that top corner and could have easily given his ground but he really wanted it and worried the rest of the field out of it.

"Qualifying would have been a pass mark but to win like he did sets him up nicely for the series."

When Plaintiff takes his place in next month's TAB Million Dollar semi-finals it will be for the second time in 2022.

Back in April, the gifted sprinter appeared to have the eighth and final semi-final all parcelled up before being run down on the line by rank outsider Zambidis at odds of $101.

"He aggravated a hock in that run which had him off for around five weeks," Thompson said.

"It wasn't major but enough to hinder his performance. In a series like this you need everything to fall into place but with even luck he's the kind of dog that can make an impression.

"There's a month to the semi-finals so he'll probably have two race starts in between to keep him ticking over. It's good to have his spot secured nice and early."

In the lead-up to Tuesday's finale Thompson took in more of Temora than most would expect.

“After kennelling I headed over to play nine holes at Temora Golf Club," Thompson said.

"I got back to the track in plenty of time for the race and the dog did the job so it was a good day all round."

Also progressing through to the semi-final stage at Temora was local galloper Impress Bromell for Billy McGovern and Kelsey Bale for Victorian mentor Daniel Gibbons.

Plaintiff is at $31 with Tab Fixed Odds to annex the Million Dollar Chase at Wentworth Park on September 24.
