ONE-time The Phoenix hopeful Plaintiff is on the road to recovery following his career-ending injury.

The superstar son of Zambora Brockie broke his hock in a box-to-box trial at The Meadows last Monday with what was to be his final hit-out before taking his place in The Phoenix won by Wow She's Fast last weekend.

Astute veterinarian Des Fegan operated successfully on the 17-time winner but it's expected that his racing days are over with a stud career looming large.

"He's recovering well," said Seona Thompson.

"Getting lots of cuddles at home and just resting up."

Winner at 17 of his 32 starts with a further 10 placings, Plaintiff, a son of Zambora Brockie and Appointed, the dam also responsible for two-time Group 1 winner Deliver, will get his chance to shine at stud.

Launching his career with victory in the Group 3 Vic Breeders Maiden, the prolific winning sprinter also finished a grand second to Wow She's Fast in the Launching Pad and finished fifth behind her in the Group 1 Maturity Classic.

At his final start in the Melbourne Cup he was beaten just half-a-length in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup behind Yachi Bale, continuing a rampage of form which saw him placed on 15 straight occasions.

"At the moment it's all about his recovery but when the time is right he'll be available at stud," Thompson added.

“We are working through all of that now.”
