Potential Superstar: King Of Aces The Real ‘Deal'

POTENTIAL superstar King Of Aces will be given a well earned break after his devastating win in the Molly Campbell Silver Dollars at Albion Park.

POTENTIAL superstar King Of Aces will be given a well earned two-week break after his devastating win in Thursday night's Molly Campbell Silver Dollars (520m) at Albion Park.

Trainer Col Graham, who prepares the gifted son of star sire Hooked On Scotch for his son Dan, said the dog had done enough for now.

King Of Aces overcame crowding out of the boxes to sweep around early leader Bantam Magic to win by almost seven lengths in 29.86 with Carton Of Bear in third.

“I was so worried,” said Col of the race.

“I'd been told Peter O'Reilly's dog Tarawi Magic was a fence crasher and he had the five.

“He did come over hard but poor Carton Of Bear copped the most of it and luckily for us, our bloke headed the inside pair and was OK after that.”

Col was happy with the run of 29.86 considering the early interference.

“I was told early in the night the track at Albion Park was a bit on the soft side,” he said.

King Of Aces is to be primed for the Ipswich Derby series in six weeks time.

“That will allow me to give him a couple of weeks doing nothing and then prepare him for Ipswich,” said Col.

“This dog puts in so hard in his races that he needs a day or so to recover. He's a bit quiet this morning.”

While King Of Aces will be resting, litter brother Distant Flash is on target for the Dave Brett Memorial Maiden at Albion Park.

“He actually broke in quicker than King Of Aces,” said Col of the dog owned by Col's other son Andy.

“He made the final of the Grafton Maiden during the July carnival.”

The Molly Campbell series has been a fabulous series to unearth potential greats.

Originally run at Capalaba, it was won there by such greats as Gallant Anne, the broodbitch legend Another Fool, G1 winner Fast Devil and Needles And Pins.

Since its move to Albion Park, greats to have won the series include Kobble Creek, Miss Hot Gossip, Whippy's Image and Cash In Motion.

Group 1 class Farmor Beach holds the race record at 29.65.

Amazingly, Michael Ivers' Kobble Creek won way back in 1998 running 30.73. He would go on to win the G1 National Distance.

Graham was emotional at the congratulations he and his family received after the win by King Of Aces.

“It was fabulous for Dan and his wife Rose who were there to enjoy the win by their dog,” he said.

The feature win continues the hugely successful start Hooked On Scotch is enjoying at stud with his pups winning right around the country.
