Pre-Post Favourite Ruled Out Of Futurity

PRE-post Ladbrokes National Futurity favourite Immunity will miss the group 1 series after coming on season.

The Jason Thompson-trained daughter of Kc And All had been considered a leading chance for the $75,000-to-the-winner bitches classic after enjoying a spectacular start to her career, winning 11 of her 15 appearances.

Included in those victories was a blinding 29.13 run at Sandown Park, a performance which convinced Thompson the regally bred youngster would be perfectly suited to Wentworth Park.

And while the season is Immunity's official reason for missing the group 1 bitches showpiece, Thompson concedes the continued uncertainty around the coronavirus border closures will likely thwart any prospects of his formidable kennel descending on Wentworth Park for next week's three group 1s – the Paws Of Thunder, National Derby and National Futurity.

"As of right now it's in the too hard basket," Thompson said.

"I have a couple of dogs eligible for the Derby that would be suited to Wentworth Park but the logistics of it all the way things are currently just makes it too difficult.

"Unless something changes between now and early next week we won't be there."

Heats of the Ladbrokes sponsored National Futurity and National Derby (520m) are slated for Friday, January 15 with the $75,000-to-the-winner group 1 finals set down for Saturday, January 23.

That night will also see the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder Final (520m) run and won, with heats of the open age sprint feature programmed for Saturday, January 16.

With the borders into New South Wales remaining open, Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) will continue to accept interstate nominations on the condition that inbound participants comply with their state health orders.

With those health orders dictating those returning home isolate for two weeks, it's anticipated interstate nominations for next week's three group 1s will be relatively sparse.
