Provincial Racing Alive And Well

PROVINCIAL greyhound is alive and well if the weekend’s action is anything to go by with some outstanding performances recorded by some hugely talented chasers.

PROVINCIAL greyhound racing is alive and well if the weekend's action is anything to go by.

From Feral Franky's blistering Richmond Riches triumph on Friday night to his litter-brother Good Odds Buddy's track record breaking Wagga Gold Cup success on the same evening, NSW provincial greyhound racing was showcased in tremendous fashion.

At Dubbo on Sunday night, Charmaine Roberts and Shayne Stiff took home the two feature events, Caitlyn Keeping landing the Ladbrokes Dubbo Gold Cup (516m), while Don't Mind Me went within a whisker of the track record in the Peg & Bill Miller Memorial (516m).

But first, back to Friday.

Feral Franky Outstanding In Riches Decider

Feral Franky confirmed his status as one of NSW's hottest young stars with a sizzling 30.31 victory in the Ladbrokes Richmond Riches Final for trainer Ray Smith.

Joining the likes of Group 1 winners Thirty Talks and Mister Twister as winner's of the Richmond Riches, Feral Franky secured the $40,000 first prize with a 7 ½ length demolition over a gallant Knighthood, who, quite amazingly, finished runner-up to the son of Collision in each of the three rounds of the series.

Now a winner at nine of his 21 starts, Feral Franky looks all but a certain starter to represent NSW in the upcoming State of Origin series, with final teams to be determined this Friday.

Good Odds Buddy Breaks Wagga Record

On a red-letter night of results for the litter, Good Odds Buddy made light work of his opposition in the Graeme Hull Memorial Wagga Gold Cup Final (525m), becoming the first greyhound to break the 30 second barrier at Wagga with a staggering 29.93 track record romp.

Defeating Cawbourne Madox by 6 ¼ lengths, Good Odds Buddy made it eight wins from 19 starts with his cup win at Wagga, overall extending the Collision x Solar Pak's litter record to 45 wins from 137 starts, with the amazing strike-rate of 32%.

Roberts' Dubbo Cup Night Clean Sweep

A big crowd packed into Dubbo on Sunday night for their feature program of racing, where both major events stayed local with Charmaine Roberts and Shayne Stiff scooping the pool.

In the Peg & Bill Miller Memorial (516m), a race the pair won in 2017 with Lexie Keeping, Don't Mind Me justified his favourtism tag with an electrifying 29.28 success, just 1/100th outside Midnight Starlet's track record.

In the $10,000 to-the-winner Dubbo Cup decider, Caitlyn Keeping led from start to finish, the daughter of Fabregas adding her hometown cup to her outstanding resume, which already boasts the Group 2 Black Top and Listed Bathurst Cup.

Scraping through to the final after finishing a tiring fourth in her heat, Caitlyn Keeping rocketed to a 8 ¼ length victory in Sunday's finale over Double Up Dee, recording a slick 29.56 and her 20th career win.
