Record Run Has Wow In Box Seat For Gosford Cup

WOW has stormed to favouritism for next Sunday’s Gosford Gold Cup with a track record breaking heat victory in the group 2 series on Sunday night.

WOW has stormed to favouritism for next Sunday's Woy Woy Poultry Gosford Gold Cup (515m) with a track record breaking heat victory in the group 2 series on Sunday night.

The hugely talented son of Fernando Bale produced an astonishing performance to annex the first heat of the $40,000-to-the-winner event, posting a remarkable 28.88, a time .02 of a second inside the 28.90 established by Beast Unleashed in the 2018 Gosford Cup series.

Trained by Karina Britton, Wow extended his winning streak to five with his rampaging record run, a sequence of wins which included a blinding 29.48 Wentworth Park success two starts ago.

Right from the get go Wow has been endowed with exceptional ability, but it's only been recently the prodigious talent has begun putting it together consistently in races.

And it's a scenario that's a rather ominous one for his opposition, beginning with next week's Gosford Cup decider, where he'll go to the boxes a pronounced favourite.

The second Gosford Cup heat on Sunday night went the way of Aston Zodiac for Geoff and Leanne Grimwood, keeping the pair's dream alive of back-to-back Gosford Cup triumphs.

Earlier this year the Martins Creek couple were on cloud nine after Kid Candle took out the rich central coast feature, delivering the pair their maiden group race victory.

Making her Gosford debut on Sunday, Aston Zodiac prevailed in a fantastic tussle with Bumpy Black down the home straight, scoring by a head in 29.56.

Winner of 16 races – including victory in ‘The Macca' on Black Top night at Ladbrokes Gardens in September, Aston Zodiac is one of the best beginners in training, a trait that makes her competitive in anything she contests.

The third qualifier saw Incapacitated roar into next Sunday's Gosford Cup finale with a rampaging 29.11 heat victory for trainer Justin King.

The last start Group 3 Christmas Shootout winner at Wentworth Park thundered home to defeat tearaway leader Casual Glance in the second quickest time of the heats, the son of Sh Avatar's 15th career success.

The fourth and final chance to qualify produced a fantastic result with comeback chaser Nangar Rust storming away for a commanding 29.26 heat win.

The immensely talented son of Bella Infrared was having just his third run back from a long spell on the sidelines with a broken hock and what a performance it was.

Going around at odds upwards of 16/1, Nangar Rust raced his way into next Sunday's Gosford Cup decider with a slashing performance under the tutelage of trainer Mick Hardman.

Finishing second and also progressing through to the final was Knight's Page for trainer Gayle Masterson.

Masterson landed the 2016 Gosford Gold Cup with her superstar chaser Knight Sprite and gets her chance to snare a second win in the race following Knight's Page's determined second on Sunday night.

The scene is set for a fantastic finale to the Gosford Gold Cup where Wow will be a pronounced favourite to continue on his merry winning way.

What an imposing proposition he's proving to be.

The Box Draw is: 1 Wow 2 Knight's Page 3 Incapacitated 4 Aston Zodiac 5 Fire Legend 6 Casual Glance 7 Nangar Rust 8 Bumpy Black 9 Sneaky Marquee 10 Zulu Warlord.
