Armatree Can Cash In On Cannonball

TRAINER Peter Lagogiane believes his promising chaser Armatree Cash has the firepower for Friday’s Cannonball Final at Richmond.

Two-time Million Dollar Chase winning trainer Peter Lagogiane believes his promising chaser Armatree Cash has the firepower to be worthy opposition to class sprinter Vamoose in Friday's Cannonball Final at Richmond.

Armatree Cash and Vamoose were two of the four heat winners for the $12,000-to-the-winner series with Vamoose qualifying fastest, running 22.41 which was just outside his track record mark of 22.36.

FIELDS AND FORM RICHMOND FRIDAY

Vamoose's trainer Sue Smith described her $2 favourite as "once in a lifetime dog" but after the white and blue chaser drew box four in the final and his trainer says he "has to do everything right".

"I would have preferred him to have drawn box eight but we're in the race and box four is what we've got," Smith said.

"When you draw the guts you have to begin well.

"No races are easy to win and it's a good race so he'll have to do everything right."

Smith nominated another heat winner, Speeding Fine as "the dog to beat" but Lagogiane says the box draw has brought Armatree Cash right into calculations, drawing to the outside of the two race favourites Vamoose and Speeding Fine ($3.60).

"I've drawn outside Vamoose and I'm going to be cutting across to the fence because that's what she wants to do," Lagogiane said.

"She tends to come out under the lids and that has the potential to be her biggest asset on Friday night.

"If she comes out running, she can cross and from there she's a chance."

Getting to the front is only part of the equation for Armatree Cash's potential Cannonball success according to Lagogiane.

The master conditioner knows Vamoose is a rare jewel and will take holding out on Friday.

"He has a powerhouse finish so I reckon I need to be three lengths minimum in front on straightening," he said.

"Any less and Vamoose has got us.

"He's a very, very good dog and they've done a marvellous job with him."
