Rupee Up And Running With First City Winner

MISS Rupee led throughout at Albion Park on Monday night to give her sire, superstar Aston Rupee, his first winner at stud, but it was almost a winning double.

Miss Rupee's litter brother, More Than Money, led to the shadows of the post when beaten a neck by Bye Bye Dora.

The littermates, by Aston Rupee from 16-time winner More Than Magic, are raced by husband and wife partnership John and Pam Field.

“It's been a bit of a celebration for both of us,” said John. “It was my birthday on Saturday and Pam's today (Tuesday).”

John said at education he thought he had superstars in their kennel.

“We broke them in ourselves and the dog More Than Money trialled 19.50 at his first look at Golden View trial track and that is unheard of,” he said.

“And the bitch has never been far behind him, but always showed more early pace.”

But the further they went on, the two pups started to disappoint.

“Their trial times, especially around Albion Park, were not as good as we expected,” said John.

“But, Paul Cauchi gave me hope when he told me recently not to take any notice of trial times at Albion Park.

“We gave them both a few weeks off and started again and Monday night is the result. They had been up for about four to five months through breaking in and early education.

“We were particularly happy with the dog's performance.”

Miss Rupee ran 30.54 to win by four lengths over Absolution.

“Don't worry about the times,” said John.

“They will keep getting better and better.”

He and Pam were impressed by the nature of the Aston Rupees.

Dam, More Than Magic, has a five-week old litter by Hooked On Scotch.

While the Fields were happy to be the first to give Aston Rupee his debut winner at stud, John and Pam were also the first to give Zipping Garth his first winner at stud.

That was speedster Zip Stream at Ipswich back in 2021.

John and Pam eventually sent her north to the Boody family and she retired the winner of 35 races and $105,000.
