Scene Set for Silver Chief Spectacular

AUSTRALIA'S brightest young male sprinters will descend on The Meadows this Saturday for the heats of the Group 1 Silver Chief Classic.

BUDDING WA superstar Sunset Spitfire begins his Group 1 Silver Chief quest when he starts a red hot favourite in heat four at The Meadows on Saturday night.

Unbeaten in 12 starts at home in Western Australia, the son of Mepunga Blazer trialled in a remarkable 29.52 at The Meadows last Saturday night, the performance seeing him shoot atop of all-in markets for the $100,000-to-the-winner series.

And while the all-male classic has been robbed of plenty of star power with the scratching of NSW gun Flying Ricciardo, a plethora of exciting up and coming juveniles are poised to partake in the series.

Set to play a huge hand in Saturday night's bumper heats is premier Victorian trainer Jason Thompson, represented with runners in seven of the eight qualifiers.

Thompson has tasted Silver Chief glory on a remarkable six occasions, the first with Light Of Fire in 1994 while the most recent was Out Of Range in 2018.

And boasting a line-up of runners which includes the unbeaten Mr. America, Ballarat record holder Pirate Pete, exciting Tasmanian Recall and the immensely talented Equalizer, expect the Pearcedale mentor to be right in the thick of things come Saturday night on a wonderful card of racing.

HEAT 1:

Fantastic first heat with the unbeaten Mr. America (2) tackling exciting WA up and comer Sunset Toxic (1). Mr. America made it 6 from 6 winning at The Meadows last Saturday in 29.85 while Sunset Toxic trialled in 29.88. Leaving one from two but is a flip of the coin. Mr Fix It (6) the other major player, did break 5 for the first split at Sandown when winning last month and record at The Meadows first rate.

TIPS 1,2,6,4

HEAT 2:

Pirate Pete (5) holds the key to the race. Has the ability to break records when things go his way but on the other hand can fail to figure with the slightest inconvenience. Box five suits as he prefers to be drawn mid to wide, banking on him putting his best foot forward. SA visitor Fly For Trix (2) has a sensational record beside his name and his well drawn while the value runner is Kaheem Bale (4) – lightly raced but is a dog on the way up.

TIPS: 5,4,2,7

HEAT 3:

Music Event (3) hasn't raced since winning at Sandown last month in fantastic style. Fantastic record at The Meadows but the concern for him is the speedy Papi Go Fast (4) drawn to his outside which looks the leader. Providing he gets to the turn unimpeded expect Music Event fights out the finish. Sovereign Wind (1) capable of running dazzling times with the aid of box one while the interesting runner is Recall (8), very talented Tassie sprinter first up for Jason Thompson.

TIPS 3,1,8,2

HEAT 4:

We see the appearance of series favourite in WA star SUNSET SPITFIRE (3). Winner at each of his 12 starts in WA and trialled at The Meadows in preparation for this series in 29.52. Tomato sauce odds but rightly so. Wild Card (4) and Utah Bales (2) capable of giving some cheek if the favourite puts a foot wrong.

HEAT 5:

Scratching of Flying Ricciardo has opened up this heat. People Get Ready (7) makes his The Meadows debut with a very impressive record and has proven he can handle wide draws. Rolling Stone (8) can be hit and miss at box rise but really motors when he hits the ground running. Expect he can use box eight to his advantage. Jepara (3) has won 3 of his 4 starts at the track and is in a top kennel.

TIPS: 8,7,3,1

HEAT 6:

Can't go poast DO IT (1) from box one off a last start 29.78 win at the track. Unbeaten in three starts from box one and looks poised to continue that trend here. Shime Jake has broken 30 here in two wins and is heading in the right direction. Earn The Answers (6) is over the odds at $9. He's got loads of ability and at the value is the on top pick. Memphis Keeping (5) is another at value worth including. Moved to Victoria with big raps and had no luck first up at Ballarat.

TIPS: 6,1,5,2

HEAT 7:

Sensational clash between EQUALIZER (1) and EAGLES NEST EGG (2). I'm with Equalizer which has been simply outstanding in two recent Warragul wins. Missing the start which is a concern but ability wise he's in the top 5 pups in the country. Box one is a huge plus. Eagles Nest Egg (2) has been running flying times at Sandown and is box ideally. Be very surprised if the winner comes away from the pair.

TIPS: 1,2,6,7

HEAT 8:

AUSSIE SECRET (1) falls into the quietest heat from box one. Even money at present which looks more than reasonable given he's unbeaten at the track. TIBERIA BALE (3) has won his past three at the track and distance and will be thundering home with any luck early. BAROOGA SMOKE (2) can do a bit wrong but has a motor when he's in full swing. Very tidy win at the track and distance two starts back.

TIPS: 1,3,2,5
