MULTIPLE track record holder Paua Of Buddy “flew” in a trial at Sandown on Wednesday and is on target for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup series.

Trainer Steve White was beaming after Paua Of Buddy (Aston Dee Bee-Paua To Admit) went 5.12 and 18.83 in a box-to-box at the circuit.

“I just looked on Sandown's Facebook page and saw they had reported Gatlin went 5.24 and 18.97 and then Zipping Orlando 5.27 and 19.26 this morning,” said Steve.

“They are very fast dogs, but Buddy went extra special.

“I even put a pup around this morning that went 5.12 and 19.07. I'll keep his name to myself.”

Paua Of Buddy has won 12 of his 23 starts and holds track records at Warragul and Wagga and is the winner of the G2 Bendigo Cup.

“People know just what a fast dog he is,” said Steve. “In fact, when he hurt a toe back in March and needed a bottom joint off, I was inundated by requests to buy semen from him.

“I'm not going to collect him while he is still racing though.”

Steve was concerned the bottom toe joint removal had seen Paua Of Buddy lose a bit of confidence coming out of the boxes.

“But, this morning I was watching him on the TV in the boxes,” he said. “He was down and then pounced out.

“And, he has pulled up good, great in fact.”

Paua Of Buddy will now head to Sandown for a race on Melbourne Cup day and then have his sights set on a Prelude a week or so later.

“He needs to get a run under his belt,” said Steve. “He had never been to Sandown before this morning.”

Meanwhile, White is overjoyed with recent stud results for champion Sennachie.

“He had 68 winners in September and already has 48 this month,” he said.

“He's got some very nice pups going around.

“That pup that won the final in Tassie (Harden Up Johnny) is a very good young dog who has won seven of 11.

“He's being pointed to some nice races coming up.”
