Scott Has One Hand On Ipswich Cup Gold

NEXT Thursday night's Group 2 Ipswich Gold Cup (520m) is a race of domination.

First, champion sire Fernando Bale has seven of the eight finalists.

Then, Churchable trainer Wayne Scott has four finalists vying for the $75,000 winner's cheque.

And, another Churchable trainer, Cyndie Elson, will front up next Thursday night with two of the Cup runners including fastest heat winner Magical Bill.

Those two finalists, Magical Bill and Magical Hope, are by Fernando Bale from the Elson family's grand staying bitch Cyndie's Magic.

Wayne Scott dominated the heats on Thursday night coming up with four winners, Mayoress in 30.31, Farmor Watch Me in 30.37, Farmor Beach in 30.52 and Fernando Beach in 30.66.

Farmor Watch Me (Kinloch Brae-Farmor Eye Am) is the only finalist not by Fernando Bale.

Farmor Beach and Fernando Beach are Fernando Bale-Kinloch Beach, while the other Cup finalists Hara's Panda and Flying Jet also are by Fernando Bale.

Wayne Scott admitted his chances rested entirely on what happens at the first turn in the Cup final.

“I can see some dramas happening,” he said. “And who knows what will come out of it.”

Scott will not go past kennel favourite Farmor Beach in the final.

“Expect improvement from him in the final,” he said. “He has not been back to Ipswich for a long while and we expect him to come out better next week.

“Mayoress has always shown us great potential and it did not surprise us that she went such fast time in the heats.

“But, she is not well boxed in the eight and will be looking to carve across.

“Fernando Beach is nicely placed in the two and he will go straight to the first turn. I'm hoping he can put paid to Flying Jet early.

“Farmor Watch Me is back from a 600 metre campaign and we did that to get him coming out better in his races and it seems to have worked.”

But Scott is in awe of the Elson pair of Magical Bill and Magical Hope.

“It is an amazing thing about Bill and Cyndie's dogs that they just seem to get better and better with racing,” said Wayne.

“They are certainly the ones to beat.

“But, as I said, the final all depends on the first turn.”
