Shima Mist Smashes Ballarat Record

EXCITING staying bitch Shima Mist, described as a "work in progress" by part-owner Dave Gleeson, smashed the Ballarat 660m record on Wednesday.

EXCITING young staying bitch Shima Mist is a “work in progress” according to part-owner Dave Gleeson.

The daughter of Shima Bar and Dundee Mist smashed the Ballarat 660m track record running 37.48 on Wednesday night when a comprehensive 15 lengths victor in a graded heat for the Andrea Dailly kennel.

“There are some fabulous staying races coming up,” said Gleeson. “But, I'm not sure she is quite ready to take on that sort of class.

“She is only a baby and is a shy little thing. It's only been since she got up in distance, and really only the past three weeks, that she has started to come into her own.”

Shima Mist was one of 10 pups from the mating of Gleeson's former Group 1 winner Shima Bar and Dundee Mist a litter sister to Geoff Scott-Smith's Group 1 Topgun and Sale Cup winning Dundee Osprey.

“I bought a couple of the pups at weaning,” said Gleeson.

“There is no doubt this bitch is ideally suited over 700 metres. I will leave all her future plans up to the Daillys.”

Shima Mist will run in a graded final next week.
