Sky's The Limit For Hot Prospect King Of Aces

KING Of Aces has emerged as potentially one of the very best youngsters in the land after the son of Hooked On Scotch scorched to a 29.54 victory at Albion Park on Thursday night.

By Hooked On Scotch from the classy Moreira bitch, Distant Star, King Of Aces was having only his fifth race start when winning for the fourth time for owner Dan Graham and his father, trainer Col.

He scored by 13 and a half lengths reeling off sections of 5.57, 11.51 and coming home in 12.48 in a heat of the time-honoured Molly Campbell Silver Dollars (520m).

The time even surprised Col Graham.

“When he went 29.95 last week he went into the race not as well prepared as he was this week,” said Col.

“But he was cherry ripe last night. I thought he could run about 29.80.

“Potentially he's the very best we've ever had.”

But, Col is not getting carried away.

“There is no way I'm going to overtax him,” he said.

“He is a dog who puts in absolutely everything to his races. He leaves nothing in the tank.

“By the time he gets back from the catching pen he is exhausted.”

King Of Aces will have only a straight gallop on Sunday to prep him for next Thursday night's final of the Molly Campbell.

“He's a beautiful dog, goes about 34.2 kilos and while he has a nice first section, his run home is his best attribute,” he said.

“He's got it all.”

Graham said he and son Dan had not had any offers to buy the potential great.

“I'm afraid to answer the phone any time it rings,” he said.

While the 29.54 was spectacular, Col is adamant he will not test King Of Aces until he has matured.

“There are a few age restricted races coming up including the Ipswich Derby,” said Col.

“I reckon Ipswich will suit him even better than Albion Park.

“If we put together plans to take him south, my other son Andy will step up and take the dog.”

Col Graham has just finalised a semen straw from Hooked On Scotch for Distant Star's litter sister Inspire Us.

“You would think it will have to work on her litter sister as well,” he said.
