Sky's The Limit For Unbeaten Sandave Pepper

PRODIGIOUS youngster Sandave Pepper will start unbackable odds in her bid to remain unbeaten at Ladbrokes Gardens on Friday afternoon.

PRODIGIOUS youngster Sandave Pepper will start unbackable odds in her bid to remain unbeaten at Ladbrokes Gardens on Friday afternoon.

The daughter of successful stud dog Zipping Garth and prolific producer Sandave Sapphire has enjoyed an unblemished start to her racing career with six dazzling wins on the bounce.

But it was last Friday's debut win at Ladbrokes Gardens which has really set tongues wagging, the 22-month old carving out the remarkable splits of 4.86 and 17.03 before stopping the clock in a fast 29.44.

FIELDS AND FORM THE GARDENS FRIDAY

That performance followed five straight wins at Grafton over the 350 metre journey for trainer Dave Richardson.

"Dogs like her are few and very far between," Richardson said.

"Her half-sister Barsandi was a very good bitch for us and at the same stage this bitch is every bit as good if not better.

"Last Friday was her very first 500 metre run so she'll only take benefit out of it. It's still all ahead of her, I'm in no rush at all.

"She'll race at The Gardens the next two Fridays and then I'll decide where to go next from there."

Richardson's options include a potential tilt at the Group 1 National Futurity (520m) which gets underway at Wentworth Park on January 13.

"I'm trying to place her at the moment as best as possible to let her build that confidence and experience," Richardson said.

"She's a brilliant traveller and the perfect kennel dog at home. But she's got that edge about her as well that the good dogs have. She doesn't take a backward step and just loves competition."

Having prepared a list of talented greyhounds, including 2013 Black Top winner Billy Buzzard, former Bulli track record holder Sandave Prince and State of Origin victor Barsandi, Richardson is no stranger to a topline greyhound.

And when speaking about the future of Sandave Pepper, Richardson can't help but not hide his excitement.

"The breed usually hit their peak at 2 ½," Richardson enthused.

"When the litter was bred I said to Sandra (Richardson) that if there was a blue one it wasn't going anywhere.

"There's been a good blue one in every litter and this litter is no different with her. Her brother Dave Sands is blue as well and he won his only start so far.

"He's every bit as good as Sandave Pepper but has some issues I need to get on top of. But he's got a bright future as well."

While Richardson is hoping for more of the same this Friday, it's in the run home he's eyeing some improvement.

"I gave her a slip at Grafton on Monday and she went as good as she's ever gone," he said.

"So she has come through last week great. You'd expect her to run the same sort of splits early and hopefully find the line that bit better."
