STAR Tasmanian bitches Amy Cora and Wynburn Lethal lock horns tonight at Hobart in what looms as a mouthwatering battle over the 461 metres.

But after watching Amy Cora tear around Launceston on Monday night in a sublime 29.48, Wynburn Lethal's trainer Ben Englund concedes his talented sprinter has the job ahead.

FIELDS, FORM & BEST PRICES

"Amy Cora is going super … running that time on Monday night – that's flying, not many can do that," Englund said.

"To beat her tonight my bitch would have to be at her absolute peak and I think she's a few weeks away from getting back to that. I'd need a lot of luck."

Winner at nine of her 22 career appearances, Wynburn Lethal, a daughter of Dyna Double One, steps out tonight for the first time since mid-March after tackling the Murray Bridge Cup series.

"We sent her over to some friends in South Australia for the race and while she didn't fail she probably went a bit below what I'd hoped," Englund said.

"But it was her first trip away from home and the experience will do her good for later on.

"When she got home we had to quarantine her so I've only been able to really work her at home. She's had one trial and really felt the run so I think it'll be a few weeks until she's back at her top. It's a big ask tonight."

In the absence of a rampaging Amy Cora tonight, class would have likely seen Wynburn Lethal through.

Boasting a 25.69 Hobart PB, the classy conveyance landed the Devonport Breeders Classic in emphatic fashion back in January.

Betting for tonight's eighth event sees the Debbie Cannan-trained Amy Cora, unbeaten in five Hobart appearances, the $1.80 favourite, ahead of Wynburn Lethal at $2.50.

"The aim is to have her ready for the Illingworth Classic which is shaping up as a hot series in a few weeks," Englund said.

"She needs the run tonight."

In the first race at Hobart this evening, Englund rugs up rails runner Wynburn Dancer.

The 461 metre invitation event boasts the appearance of superstar brothers Stanley Gordon and Raging Ralston, the fastest two greyhounds to go around Hobart. Ever.

"Wynburn Dancer is coming back from a seasonal spell … she's shorter in the market than what she should be," Englund said.

"It's a hot race, I nearly fell over when the fields came out. Raging Ralston looks ideally boxed, the checks will cut to the fence and give him a good run and Stanley Gordon loves it out wide."
