Stud Fee Surge For In Demand Feral Franky

FERAL Franky's emergence as a bright young stud star and his popularity with breeders has forced his service fee to rise to $3300.

FERAL Franky's emergence as a bright young stud star and his popularity with breeders has forced his service fee to rise to $3300.

The son of Collision and Solar Pak is running at a 22 percent winners to runners success rate.

Studmaster, Jack Smith, said Friday his first thoughts were all about looking after the dog's best interests.

“We don't want to say no to anybody,” he said. “But we have to slow it down somehow.”

Smith says he never once expected the demand to be like it has become.

“When he first started off at stud, we thought three and four a month was good,” he said.

“In two years, the country is going to be saturated with Feral Franky pups.”

Franky's first three litters to hit the racetrack, out of the Wheeler dynasty, are already making their presence felt in Group finals and the majority are proving to be very strong.

Mckeon Bale (10 wins, $57,000), Kelsey Bale (7 wins, $55,000), Rohan Bale (7 wins, $49,000), Ariarne Bale (5 wins, $38,000), Quinlan Bale (9 wins, $35,000) and Nicholson Bale (10 wins, $31,000) lead the way from the Wheeler kennekl.

“We sold Wheelers 10 straws, from memory, when he first went to stud,” said Jack.

“Franky's fertility is fine but we still want to be able to keep him going.

“He is getting decent sized litters.

“But, we have got to find a happy medium to cater for the response.”
