RACE favourite Sunburnt Highway has roared away for a stunning victory in Friday night's TAB Masters Meteor Final (520m) for Dapto couple John and Judy Richardson.

The grand old son of Oaks Road went into the $100,000 to-the-winner decider as the one to beat off some stellar recent form including a slick last start 29.91 Masters Meteor heat win.

And after assuming the lead through the catching pen the race was as good as over, the now 19-time Wentworth Park winner powering away for a slashing 7 1/4 length victory in a fast 29.87.

"I'm just so proud – the main thing was that he got around safely," said an emotional John Richardson.

“He's a great race dog but at home he's like a pet – such a wonderful dog.
He just pays the bills and loves racing.

“I don't know what else I can say about him. He just turns up and does his best every start – he doesn't know how old he is."

Four in August, Friday night's Masters Meteor Final spiraled Sunburnt Highway's prize money to $242,000.

In a spirited battle for the placings, second went to a fast finishing Benkennie Chic along the rails while
early leader Charlie Cockatoo held on late for third.
