Switch Of Kennel For Golden Sands Winner

GROUP 3 Golden Sands winner Velocity Bettina has moved to a prominent Victorian kennel in her bid for the upcoming G1 Rookie Rebel at The Meadows.

GROUP 3 Golden Sands winner Velocity Bettina has joined the kennels of Victorian trainer Anthony Azzopardi in her bid for the upcoming Group 1 Rookie Rebel.

Breeder and owner Steve Williams accepted the advice of the bitch's Queensland trainer Kevin Ellis for her to join the Azzopardi kennel for her Melbourne campaign.

“She's arrived here in fantastic order,” said Azzopardi. “All credit to Kevin and how he has looked after her.

“She's a bit of a spooky bitch but my wife and daughter have been walking her already and she has settled in perfectly. We love her.”

Azzopardi was contacted by The Meadows club officials after the kennel transfer was put in with regards to a nomination for the Rookie Rebel invitational (600m) on Saturday, February 15.

“They wanted to know if I wanted her to stay in the Rookie Rebel nominations,” he said. “That's what she is here for.”

Azzopardi trained her sire Zambora Brockie to multiple Group 1 successes and is proud of the dog's high class progeny.

Azzopardi added that Group 1 Melbourne Cup winner Whiskey Riot would head towards the Group 1 Temlee (525m) on February 15 before moving on to tackle the Group 1 Australian Cup.

“He trialled over 390 metres at Warrnambool the other day and went within a tick of the record,” he said. “He's ready.”
