WAGERING giant Tabcorp is offering an enticing $4.00 special about star Victorian duo Orson Allen and Tornado Tears taking out the National Sprint and Distance Championships at Cannington on August 24.

A champagne night of Australasian greyhound racing this Thursday will decide the finalists for the group 1 blockbusters at Cannington in a little over a fortnight's time, but one thing already guaranteed is the presence of Orson Allen and Tornado Tears in their respective finals, providing they step out at The Meadows tomorrow night.

Assessed as Australia's highest ranked sprinter and stayer, Orson Allen's National Sprint place and Tornado Tears' National Distance spot are assured through the GCA wild card system, introduced back in 2009.

Currently, the TAB has the Rob Britton-trained Tornado Tears a $1.50 all-in favourite to defend his National Distance Championship title, while Orson Allen is a $2.20 all-in favourite for the National Sprint Championship, despite being second favourite to Black Opium in Thursday night's Victorian Sprint Final at The Meadows.

But with Orson Allen's grand final place locked in, there's no surprise the Correy Grenfell-trained son of Kc And All is at the top of the pile in betting, remembering his blistering winning performances in the Perth Cup at Cannington earlier in the year, going within a whisker of the track record in his rampaging heat win.

And speaking of rampaging heat wins, who could forget Tornado Tears' 18-length track record demolition in his qualifier of the Group 1 Galaxy, before finishing a luckless second in the final.

So with their spots assured, and their glowing records at Cannington, the $4.00 on the offing from Tab is most appealing.

Given the strength Victoria has at its disposal in the sprint and distance ranks, and to a slightly lesser extent New South Wales and Queensland, it's often suggested progressing through those state finals' can prove a more difficult task than winning the grand final itself.

Running the crystal ball over the potential shape of the August 24 finals, if each of the favourites win their respective finals this Thursday, the composition of the sprint and distance finals would look something like this.

At an attractive $4.00, the multi-special may be very well worth a flutter.
