TAB Wins Record In Sight For Cosmic Bonus

THE all-time Australian TAB wins record is firmly in the sights of Cosmic Bonus after he recorded his 70th race victory at Lismore on Tuesday night.

THE all-time Australian TAB wins record is firmly in the sights of Cosmic Bonus after the son of Cosmic Rumble recorded his 70th race victory at Lismore on Tuesday night.

Yes, that's right, 70!

Stepping out in a $5,000 to-the-winner Masters event over 520 metres, the rising six-year-old justified his $1.30 favourite's tag to defeat kennelmate Bad Neighbour in 30.48 for Len and Evelyn Harris.

The performance took the grand chaser within two wins of Saltwater Pete's record of 74 TAB successes, the son of November Fury proving almost unbeatable in North Queensland from 2006 to 2008, winning 51 percent of his races.

The zest Cosmic Bonus maintains for racing continues to amaze.

Remarkably in the money at 110 of his 142 starts, it now appears a formality that the 2018 Gosford Cup winner will annex the record in the coming weeks.

Winner of $400,000 in stakes, the four-time group 1 finalist, which debuted way back in September 2016, is a prime example of the success Masters' racing has been in New South Wales.

Without it the September 2014 whelp would have been retired long ago, starved of opportunity and forced to size up free for all events to continue racing.

While the fast approaching 74 wins mark is the Australian record, the Australasian record stands with NZ sensation Wheelchair Norm, the freakish sprinter retiring with an astounding 97 wins.

Cosmic Bonus has a long way to go to reach that mark but I'm not completely writing him off.

How could you?

He's an absolute marvel.
