Tassie's Best Chasing Thousand Glory

THE scene has been set for a highly anticipated finale to the Group 1 Sky Racing Hobart Thousand Final this Thursday night at Hobart following the box draw which took place on Saturday night.

Local trained greyhounds Peco Can and Stop Line have drawn ideally in boxes one and four respectively, chasing the $75,000 in racing riches on the offing, following their heat respective heat wins last Thursday night at the Elwick circuit.

Peco Can for trainer Robin Grubb looks well positioned to claim her first group race title having set the greyhound world alight in her 17 career starts.

By Fernando Bale out of Sing The Song, Peco Can recorded a narrow heat win last Thursday, staving off the fast finishing Wynburn Cutie to score her tenth straight victory over Hobart 461 metre trip.

Trainers Jillian and Richard Stamford are looking to claim their fourth "Thousand" title this Thursday with Stop Line, last tasting success with Shantung Tiger in 1997.

The Westbury-based couple have the ever-consistent Stop Line engaged following his bold heat winning effort over Hello Rhonda, running 25.68.

Trainer Mick Stringer looks well favoured to claim his second Hobart Thousand victory after Little Spaniard scored in 2008, with Melbourne-owned chaser Despacito clocking the fastest qualifying heat time of 25.62 from box two.

By Black Magic Opal from El Brooklyn, the Seona Thompson-owned chaser has won 13 from 41 career starts and already has "group status" against his name, claiming the Group 2 Great Chase Series at The Meadows last year.

Pre-post betting on this Thursday's Group 1 feature sees Peco Can the $2.30 favourite, with Orson Allen at $3.60, Despacito $5 and Stop Line at $5.50 while Be Like Bill and Gotta Be You are double figure odds.
