TERRIFIC meeting featuring three Group 3 finals – the Ladies Bracelet, Bob Payne Sprint and Gold Cup.

But while it’s a fantastic meeting with plenty of value plucking out some of the better bets took some doing.

WENTWORTH PARK SATURDAY NIGHT FORM

Race 4 Number 3 – NANGAR RUST – $2.6

Nangar Rust makes his Sydney return and while his WPK record is diabolical this looks his race. Hasn’t fired a shot in four previous runs in town but is well graded tonight and should get a decent run from the draw. Recent runs in Victoria have been very good and expect he continues that form with victory here.

Race 6 Number 2 – VAMOS PENNY – $6

Wide open Ladies Bracelet Final where seven of the eight finalists are under double figure odds. Charge into the first corner will prove all important and at around the $6 mark I’m expecting Vamos Penny to give backers a great run for their money. Draw has fallen her way and expecting last week’s heat win – her first run in eight weeks – to bring her right on.

Race 7 Number 4 – STANLEY ROAD – $2.05

Had his colours lowered in his heat when never out of bother but expecting him to return to the winner’s list in the Group 3 Gold Cup Final. Australia’s number one stayer and only needs to get through the first corner unscathed to be in the finish. Even money currently which looks more than fair given what he’s achieved in the past few months.

Best Value

Race 5 Number 3 – FIRE ON ICE – $3

Not much value with $3 being offered but expecting a forward performance. Not a lot went right in her Bracelet heat and I thought the fact she was only beaten 1 ¼ lengths at the finish after failing to lead was full of merit. Drawn to get her chance to lead in this which should take her a long way to victory.

Race 8 Number 3 – FIRE LEGEND – $8

Going to Fire On Ice’s brother for the second value tip in Fire Legend which tackles the Group 3 Bob Payne Sprint. Can set your watch by the consistency of this fella and at around the $8 mark looks poised to run a big race. Slow beginner on his outside an advantage and if he carves out 5.40 early and puts himself in the race early will give backers a great sight.
