CHAMPION stayer Tornado Tears shot to the top of the Speed Star pecking order with a sizzling 41.34 715-metre trial at Sandown Park on Monday.

Confirming he's right on track for the $20,000 to-the-winner Speed Star Series at Sandown on Sunday, September 15, the superstar son of Fernando Bale was most impressive carving out a fast 41.34, just two lengths outside his personal best at the circuit of 41.20.

Heading into Monday's trial, the 715-metre Speed Star leader-board was led by Blue Shadows at 41.69, a time not surprisingly dwarfed by the multiple group 1 winning galloper.

Reigning Group 1 Sandown Cup winner Rajasthan also trialled at Sandown on Monday in preparation for the upcoming Speed Star, posting a moderate 42.03, a time that has the Rob Camilleri-trained charge right on the fringe for a potential Speed Star berth.

Meanwhile, WA star Campini had his first look at Sandown on Monday for trainer Paul Stuart, registering 29.442 for the 515 metres, a time outside the top eight qualifiers at present.

Sitting in eighth position currently is Kessler Bale at 29.30.
