Turn And Burn Comes Up Trumps

IPSWICH trainer Garry Gilbert reckons owner Gary Dodt should get an award.

IPSWICH trainer Garry Gilbert reckons owner Gary Dodt should get an award.

Gary was rewarded last Thursday night at Albion Park when Turn And Burn came from well back to win a 520m Masters-5th Grade in 30.44. He scored by half a length over Captain til with Myona Morpheus close up third.

“Gary deserves an award for what this dog has put him through,” said Gilbert.

Turn And Burn (Fear Zafonic-Terrific Style) was a boom youngster who at 17 months of age won a heat of the Vince Curry Maiden in impressive style.

He fought not long after, then broke a toe that needed to be removed.

That toe injury needed three different operations in the next few years and Gilbert says Gary Dodt deserves his reward for being so patient and backing the decision to keep the dog going.

Turn And Burn has now started 33 times for eight wins and 10 placings and earned $23,000.

“Nothing is ever a problem with Gary,” said Gilbert. “I'm just glad this dog continues to race so well and provide him with just reward for being so understanding.”

Turn And Burn is from a fabulous litter that includes Group 3 Ipswich Auction winner Pyro Bob and Group 2 Laurels finalist Isla's Style.

The latter bitch won the Silver Dollars at Albion Park and Gary Dodt has since bought a bitch pup from her litter to Fabregas.

Of Turn And Burn, Gilbert says the dog is racing as well as ever having also won at Albion Park three starts back.
