Underwhelming Turn Out For Bulli Gold Cup

THE Bulli club has received an underwhelming response to their Group 2 Gold Cup heats this Saturday night with just the 21 nominations for the feature.

THE Bulli club has received an underwhelming response to their Group 2 Gold Cup heats this Saturday night.

The 472 metre showcase, carrying a cool $40,000 to-the-winner, will see just three heats conducted this weekend.

And to make matters worse, just seven dogs will line-up in each of those qualifiers.

Just the one interstate entry was received for the group 2 heats, with Queensland trainer Steve Scott electing to send speed machine Farmor Fearsome south for a tilt at the rich south coast feature.

Reigning champion Pindari Express has been nominated to take his place but whether he starts in the opening heat at the weekend remains clouded.

The Million Dollar Chase finalists preparation has been less than ideal, meaning that if he does take his place on Saturday night, it will be so well underdone when tackling a red hot Turbo Thomas.

The TAB wins record holder has been in slashing form at his two most recent victories, scoring in dominant fashion at Maitland in 22.00 (400m) and 25.13 (450m) for trainer Jason Mackay.

Mackay is also represented in the second heat, with group 2 Black Top winner Aston Duke tackling short-course sensation Caviar Quality for Sam Sultana and Ron Marsden's prolific winning sprinter Hardaway Titan.

The third and final qualifier will see Ebby Infrared start tight in the market, pitted up against an in-form Bill Bath as well as multiple city winner Cawbourne Marty and the hugely talented Defy.

Nangar Jack also takes his place in the final heat for trainer Neville Brown, the 20-time winning son of Brett Lee boasting a fast 26.14 PB for the Bulli 472 metres.

He'll exit box eight looking to qualify for next week's final.
