Unlawful's Grand ‘Entry' At Stud

WHEN great race dogs retire to stud, they take with them a number of criteria that "could" make them a success in their new career. Enter Unlawful Entry.

WHEN great race dogs retire to stud, they take with them a number of criteria that “could” make them a success in their new career.

While pedigree is a major part of that, all stud dogs are judged on their racetrack performances. Not so broodbitches.

Group 1 acclaim is virtually a must, but of more importance for long-term stud success seems to be the ability to break track records.

Check out just a small handful of great stud dogs who broke track records … Temlee, Head Honcho, Black Top, Collision, Brett Lee, Barcia Bale, Fernando Bale, the list is significant to say the least.

And, conversely, the list of fine race dogs who did not break a track record and then struggled to become a success at stud is equally as significant.

When Unlawful Entry (Knocka Norris-She Ain't Late by Late Late Show) retired to stud he took with him not only Group 1 success, but THREE track records.

One of those was his 29.85 Sandown record toppling Bekim Bale, a quality but often maligned stud dog, as the then fastest around that track.

Unlawful Entry was a superstar who also broke track records at Ballarat and Warrnambool.

He raced 72 times for 22 wins and 28 placings earning $275,000 in stakes. He won the G1 Hobart Thousand, G2 Great Chase and Listed Cup Night Sprint.

He was second in the Ballarat Cup, third in the Warrnambool Cup, Bendigo Cup and Silver Bullet and a finalist in the Topgun, Temlee, Hobart 1000 (again), Australian Cup, Harrison Dawson, Cranbourne Cup and Australian Sprint.

His litter brother was a G1 Perth Cup finalist and track record breaker.

While that sort of racetrack career warranted a stud career, Unlawful Entry also had bloodlines to back up those performances.

He is bred on the exact same cross as former Wentworth Park and Richmond track record holder Punch One Out with a balance of Solve The Puzzle via son and daughter and in-breeding to similarly bred Princess Rema and Token Prince.

Sources close to the Brett Bravo kennel say Unlawful Entry was an extraordinary chaser. In today's racing world, that is yet another criteria broodbitch owners must admire in a stud dog.

From limited matings to date, Unlawful Entry has produced some promising youngsters.

The oldest litters have just turned two so there is much time for Unlawful Entry to prove himself a high quality stud dog.

His progeny are headed by the littermates Chevy's Entry and Mrs Sharp.

Interestingly, their dam is by Bekim Bale, and from the famous Queen Size direct damline.

The very smart city winner Terren's Close is by Unlawful Entry-Baroness Jill and is the winner of eight races.

His dam is Collision-Glamorous Denise the latter a sister to Magic Sprite.

Littermates Slingshot Titan, Slingshot Prince, Slingshot Style, Slingshot Reaper and Slingshot Ebony (Unlawful Entry-Paw Sa Prize) are from the famed direct damline of legend Miata.

And, the classy Still Blue (Unlawful Entry-Jordanic) is yet another, like Chevy's Entity, from the Queen Size damline. Still Blue is line bred 2×3 to Knocka Norris, and like Terren's Choice, brings in Magic Sprite.

The pedigree of Unlawful Entry is fascinating. He carries Knockabout Wok and Little Bit Shy 4×3 and strongly positioned to impact each other.

They are virtually brother and sister both being by Solve The Puzzle. They then bring in Princess Rema and Token Prince respectively. Both of these are by Malawi's Prince from a daughter of Amerigo Man.

When Unlawful Entry was bred, it was an absolutely fabulous mating one worthy of Group 1 success.

The fact Irish great Late Late Show (Spiral Nikita-Ullid Citrate by Cry Dalcash) is his damsire means he is fabulous for daughters of Magic Sprite.

Magic Sprite has done well when Spiral Nikita is duplicated in his progeny. The Group star France Soir (by Magic Sprite) is in-bred 3×2 to Spiral Nikita. There are a number of other examples.

The previously mentioned Still Blue is in-bred 4×4 and balanced to Spiral Nikita.

Duplicating Spiral Nikita in the progeny of Unlawful Entry is a theme that could be tried over and over again. The number of bitches in Australia with Spiral Nikita in their make-up is endless.

One particularly interesting could be to a daughter of Irish great Milldean Panther who is hugely in-bred to Spiral Nikita and a sister. He has done particularly well when linked to the Elite State line.

Elite State, of course, is the grandsire of Unlawful Entry.

Late Late Show's damsire Cry Dalcash is saturated with the blood of Skipping Chick … think Curryhill Brute, Curryhills Fox, Skelligs Tiger etc all of them found
in numerous pedigrees in this country.

Fernando Bale has Skelligs Tiger in his pedigree.

Fernando's sire Kelsos Fusileer is out of a bitch by Arrigle Buddy who is saturated with the Skipping Chick family.

Remember, too, that Fernando has sired that champion litter that included Poke The Bear and Out Of Range from a daughter of Knocka Norris.

Also, daughters of Barcia Bale are a natural for Unlawful Entry.

Remember, Barcia's champion son Dyna Double One carries a cross of Spiral Nikita through a son. Putting a daughter of Barcia Bale to Unlawful Entry will go some of the way to recreating the pedigree of Dyna Double One … but in reverse.

Remember, too, that Barcia Bale's champion son Aston Dee Bee has Elite Oriental as his second dam. She is a litter sister to Unlawful Entry's sire Knocka Norris.

Take a close look at the pedigree of Unlawful Entry and it will be obvious he carries no Brett Lee (or his half brother Big Daddy Cool) anywhere. Brett Lee, too, does exceptionally when linked to Spiral Nikita … think Magic Sprite and Oaks Road etc etc etc.

The double of Solve The Puzzle in Unlawful Entry opens him up to matings with bitches that carry Bombastic Shiraz. Solve The Puzzle's dam is saturated with the blood of that famous broodbitch Princess Diro.

This too is the family found saturated in Bombastic Shiraz's dam.

It is a family that continues to toss up superstars when it is greatly reinforced within itself.

The direct dam-line of Unlawful Entry runs to the famous imported bitch Tapestry who is responsible for some great names down the ages including Tangairn, Primo Uno and of course the famed Portrait family.

Putting bitches with a strong Primo Uno influence (Fernando Bale, Worm Burner etc) is another aspect breeders could undertake with Unlawful Entry.
