Vanderworp Flying Under The Radar At Stud

WHEN Vanderworp was sweeping all before him winning group sprints and making big finals he produced a degree of pace admired by all.

WHEN Vanderworp was sweeping all before him back in 2018 winning group sprints and making big finals he produced a degree of pace admired by all … to say the least.

The son of Kelsos Fusileer (sire of legend Fernando Bale), he is out of High Recall (12 wins, $50,000) an outstanding race bitch and G1 Perth Cup finalist.

VANDERWORP AT STUD

From just 29 starts, Vanderworp won 16 and was placed six times for $120,000 in stakes for Chris Halse.

It prompted his connections to give him his chance at stud.

Being based in WA, Vanderworp was generally going to be restricted to matings to bitches from that state.

He has 12 litters on the ground but is punching WAY above his weight.

In fact, in two years, he has had just 59 runners for the winners of $657,000 in stakes at a winner to runner percentage of 20.5.

Very few of the stud dogs above him on sires' lists can boast such and impressive percentage.

And, Vanderworp can come up with a special race dog.

His standout is Manzu (Vanderworp-Legit Boss) the winner of 17 of his 28 starts for $119,000 and he is a multiple Group winner of the G2 WA Derby and G3 Darwin Cup.

The Legit Boss litter is Vanderworp's flag bearer bunch.

They also include Valachi (12 wins, $58,000), Kapito (12 wins, $47,000) and Zeak (11 wins, $47,000).

Valachi has been second in the Listed Anniversary Cup and a finalist in The Westchase.

Kapito made the final of the WA-bred Championship, while Zeak has also been a finalist in the Listed Peter Thomas.

Other classy gallopers by Vanderworp include Ready For Magic (9 wins, $43,000) a finalist in the G3 Perth Cup Consolation, Pikachu Wave (10 wins, $31,000), Ruby Doobie (12 wins, $30,000) and Big Pikachu (14 wins, $28,000).

ALL of Vanderworp's named progeny have been winners.

None of those results are surprising consider what a fine race dog he was on the track.

Vanderworp won the G2 Bendigo Cup, defeating the likes of  Striker Light, Orson Allen and Big Flood, and was second in the G3 Perth Cup Consolation.

He was a finalist in the G2 WA Derby and G3 SA Derby. Originally raced in WA where he went very fast times at both Cannington and Mandurah, he was sent to Victoria and raced some of the best sprinters around.

From a fabulous litter, he is a brother to West On Charlie (9 wins, $40,000, 3rd G3 WA Young Stars Classic), Black Fusileer (7 wins, $24,000) etc.

His dam High Recall is a litter sister to Star Recall (40 wins, $446,000, G1 Sale Cup, G1 Stayers Cup, 2nd G1 Nat Sprint, twice finalist G1 Perth Cup, finalist G1 Melb Cup, G1 Rookie Rebel), My Mate Cobber (19 wins, $88,000, finalist G1 WA Galaxy) and Who's Doing What (16 wins, finalist G3 Gawler Cup, dam of Smart Knocka 2nd G3 SA Derby). This is the direct damline of Cool Effort (G2 Sandown Shootout, G2 Geelong Cup, successful sire).

Vanderworp, as to be expected, has done exceptionally well when mated to bitches from Miata's famous damline.

This is how Manzu and his fine littermates are bred.

Vanderworp's damline is a mix of Collision (via his son High Earner), Big Daddy Cool and Rapid Journey.

His mother is line bred to Head Honcho.

It is a damline crying out for Brett Lee, Fabregas … in fact Vanderworp is able to mate just about any broodbitch in the country.

His damsire, High Earner, has worked especially well when linked to Bombastic Shiraz and done well with outcross influences like Spiral Nikita and Premier Fantasy.
