Weekes ‘Hooked' On Scotch At Stud

JUST retired superstar Hooked On Scotch has had his first mating since commencing stud duties.

And it's a lofty introduction for the track record breaking group 1 winner with the now Toby Weekes-owned Lagoon Prissy being served last week.

A daughter of Cosmic Rumble and Lagoon Lowanna, Lagoon Prissy's first litter to Barcia Bale has recently hit the ground running, more than enough reason for Weekes to head the way of Hooked On Scotch, a son of Barcia Bale.

“I'm a real rap for Hooked On Scotch, and especially for his father Barcia Bale who I call ‘The King',” said Weekes.

“The opportunity came up for me to buy Lagoon Prissy recently which had just come on season. I had also seen her litter by Fernando Bale which Ray Webster kept and they are fabulous types.

"I jumped at the chance and it worked out perfectly time wise.”

Lagoon Prissy won four races in a short career all of them at Dapto, but she is a litter sister to the outstanding Lagoon Rhett (29 wins, $152,000).

She is also a half-sister to former group star and now promising young stud dog Ritza Lenny (Barcia Bale-Lagoon Lowanna).

Weekes says Hooked On Scotch was a natural for the bitch.

“I've always liked him and there are group 1 dogs everywhere in his family,” he said.

“He will make it for sure.

“And I plan to keep the litter. I've been breeding and selling a lot of the pups we rear but the time has come for me to keep a good few and race them.

“We are fortunate as well that Just Terms will be coming home to be bred with soon.”

Toby bred the daughter of Barcia Bale and Kerrigan Bale, the winner of 19 races and $264,000 and a last start Wentworth Park winner for Jodie Lord.

“I was lucky that I got to keep her for breeding,” said Weekes.

“I was talking to Andy (Lord) after her win and he said a Sydney Cup campaign might just about pull her up.

“It is entirely up to him. What a great job they have done with her.”
