Wheel In Motion For Britton's The 715 Assault

ROBBIE Britton and son Tim are realists and know only too well the task facing their three finalists in Saturday night's The 715 at The Gardens.

The $500,000-to-the-winner glamour staying event sees the Britton kennel with Wheel And Go (Benali-Erelda Bale) and the littermates Play Nice and On The Off (Fernando Bale-Tears Siam) all heat winners.

“Yes, we are likely to have three of the outsiders in the final and some of those drawn near the fence will be hard to beat,” said Robbie.

“And the box draw has made it harder for us.

“But, we are there and as we all know, anything can happen in a greyhound race.”

Robbie says Wheel And Go is the kennel's best hope in the final.

He ran 41.90 to win his heat beating Nangar Rocket.

“That Benali litter has been absolutely tremendous,” said Robbie.

“Wheel And Go looked like he would struggle to run 700 metres when we first tried him, but in the past four runs he has really handled it.

“He can stay now and if he can get a clear run early he is a chance of leading and will be hard to beat.”

Play Nice ran 41.86 to beat Zipping Whiskey, while On The Off ran 42.03 when winning over You Know Tree.

“This pair are no superstars, but they are very nice city dogs,” said Robbie of the offspring of the fourth mating of Fernando Bale-Tears Siam endeavouring to match stars from previous matings like Tornado Tears and Here's Tears.

“Michael (Ivers) does a marvellous job with his matings and rearing, and by the time these dogs came to us they are all professional race dogs.

“It is a line that goes right back to the 80s and is still producing as well as ever.”

Of the final, Robbie said the kennel tossed all their stayers into the heats because of the lack of any real superstars in the ranks.

“The red (Palawa King) looks the one to beat and he was impressive in his heat win,” said Robbie.

“But, he was back near last and got a dream run along the fence early. He will need to get some luck early, but has drawn to get it.”

Jack Smith trains Palawa King and he won the inaugural running of The 715 last year with staying star Miss Ezmae.

Palawa King (Feral Franky-Maximum Dos) won his heat in 41.59.

“If he runs up to that again, he should win,” said Britton.

John Finn's Zipping Orlando continued his rise among the staying ranks when winning his heat in 41.83.

It followed his great win in the G1 Association Cup during the Golden Easter Egg carnival at Wentworth Park when leading throughout.
