Winxette's Perfect Pick Me Up

WINXETTE long overdue initial Wentworth Park win yesterday week was described as a “tremendous pick me up” by her seriously ill trainer Ron Field.

After being runner-up in two of her previous six WP starts, Winxette, now trained by Mary Wright and Karina Britton, came from second all the way to the home bend to win by a half-length.
Ironically the runner-up Jayda Rose, who made all the running, is trained by Field's nephew Dean Swain.
Winxette is a relatively recent addition to Mary Wright's Appin kennels where Karina Britton has been the “behind the scenes” conditioner since the days of Edie Beauchamp, the Wright family's 2006 Golden Easter Egg winner.
Until recently Ron Field, who bred Winxette from his bitch Miss All Class, was the greyhound's trainer.
“I have stage four cancer and it got to the stage where I could not exercise Winxette because I did not even have the strength to hold her on the lead,” Field said.
“My hip and back are crippled due to the cancer but Winxette's win was every bit as enjoyable as if I was training her myself.
“It picked me up so much that I became so excited I could not sleep after she won last week.
“When Winxette got behind Dean's bitch Jayda Rose I was pretty confident she would run her down but then on the home turn I wasn't so sure.
“I can't thank Karina Britton enough for the work and dedication she has put into looking after Winxette for me.
“She gave her a 600 metre race at Dapto on June 21 and after leading early Winxette finished third.
“But making the pace and getting on the bunny in that race restored Winxette's confidence, which had probably been diminished through her being bashed around on the first turn at Wenty.
“Winxette is from Miss All Class' second litter, by Swift Fancy, and I race her in partnership with Nathan Summers, my daughter's husband.
“Miss All Class currently has a litter of seven by Fernando Bale, which are now eight weeks old.
“I have given one to Karina as a thank you for all the effort she has put into getting Winxette to win a race in town for me.”
Miss All Class, a winner of six races, was trained by Ron Field, as was her dam She's So Pretty, who won three races for the popular trainer.
