VICTORIA Police Homicide Squad detectives have charged 25-year-old Jessie Moore over the death of greyhound trainer Karen Leek.

Moore, 25, from Berwick, is the niece of Leek, the highly respected greyhound identity tragically murdered within the confines of her Devon Meadows property on Tuesday, May 26.

The harrowing incident sparked an outpouring of emotions from a grief stricken community, with today’s heart-wrenching revelations expected to only heighten the pain being felt within greyhound industry circles.

At the time of her tragic death, Leek was caring for her five-year old great niece.

On Thursday, a heavily pregnant Moore refused to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, instead remaining in the cells while her hearing was conducted in front of magistrate Marita Altman.

Following Thursday’s court hearing, magistrate Altman ordered that a brief be provided to the defence by mid-July for further instructions.
