DUAL Group 1 winners Wow and Tommy Shelby have been installed $2.40 equal favourites for next Saturday night’s Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg (520m) at Wentworth Park.

Setting the pace for the $250,000-to-the-winner finale is the Karina Britton-trained Wow which ran a spectacular 29.45 to secure his semi-final on Saturday night.

Already boasting wins in the Group 1 Paws Of Thunder and Group 1 Temlee, Wow has drawn box three for next week’s decider where victory will see his career earning surpass half a million dollars.

Tommy Shelby’s passage through to the final wasn’t as straightforward, finishing two lengths second to the Mark Moroney-trained Fire On Ice in 29.64.

The Australian Cup winner has drawn box eight for the final – the same draw he negotiated when third to Handsome Prince in last October’s TAB Million Dollar Chase Final.

His Golden Easter Egg berth now means the son of Fernando Bale will miss next week’s Perth Cup heats at Cannington, sadly robbing the WA showpiece of their major attraction.

On a night of upsets, the opening Egg semi-final went the way of Vicki’s Queen for trainer Peter Lagogiane in 29.66.

Two years ago Lagogiane finished a close up second in the Golden Easter Egg with Federal Lilly and his hopes in this year’s final will rest with another fawn chaser.

Vicki’s Queen – a sister to Bulli Cup hero Barcia Blue Boy which tragically broke down in an Easter Egg heat last Saturday – has drawn box two for the final with TAB.com.au installing her at $8.

The final semi-final produced the upset of the night with Victorian sprinter Devel Sixteen leading all-the-way in 29.54 to defeat Queenslander Farmor Beach by 3 3/4 lengths.

The big story out of the race however was the shock elimination of red hot series favourite Flying Ricciardo which was beaten out of a place after stumbling at box rise.

While post race veterinary reports on race night found no injury, more thorough inspection on Sunday found that the multiple group winner had suffered injuries to a hock and hip support, set to sideline the son of Barcia Bale for the immediate future.

Next week’s Egg decider will see champion sire Fernando Bale represented by no less than six finalists, another truly amazing achievement.
