Wow She's Fast Locked And Loaded For Phoenix

Betting giant Sportsbet has locked in gifted youngster Wow She’s Fast for its slot in The TAB Phoenix to be run at The Meadows on Saturday week.

Betting giant Sportsbet has locked in gifted youngster Wow She's Fast for its slot in The TAB Phoenix ($1.145m) to be run at The Meadows on Saturday week.

In the hands of premier trainer Kel Greenough, the aptly named Wow She's Fast has enjoyed a whirlwind start to her career, beginning at Sandown Park on September 26 with a mesmerising 27 ½ length victory in a class record 29.09s.

Since that astonishing debut, Wow She's Fast has been firmly on Sportsbet's radar for its coveted spot in the $750,000-to-the-winner The Phoenix (525m), with those talks formalising late Monday.

"It's now full steam ahead," said trainer Kel Greenough.

"We've been in discussions since late September and Sportsbet hasn't wavered once in their desire to have her run in the race.

"If anything I've had reservations given her lack of age and experience but in my dealings with Sportsbet their only endeavour is to promote the sport.

"I would have been silly to say no."

Winner at four of her six starts by an aggregate winning margin of 45 lengths, Wow She's Fast is rapidly establishing a sizeable following, her alluring name more than supported by her brilliant racing attributes.

And while the daughter of My Bro Fabio is poised to face the starter against some seasoned superstars of the sport, Greenough remains confident that his exciting youngster can more than make her presence felt.

"Like all big races the box draw (on Sunday) will play a big part in our chances," Greenough said.

"She trialled at The Meadows on Monday and I was very happy with how she went. It's a very interesting race given all the different form lines, the box draw takes on huge significance.

"My job now is to ensure she gets there on race night in the best shape possible. So far so good."

Sportsbet greyhound analyst Shannon Tremellen has been an unabashed fan of Wow She's Fast since her resounding debut.

"The team at Sportsbet watched on in amazement the Sunday she debuted and won the way she did," Tremellen said.

"The win was incredible made more so by the fact that she was under 20 months of age. Her time was faster than any of the times for the past 16 Melbourne Cup heats in the past two years.

"Although we believe the best of her won't be seen until next year, we think she's well placed to perform well in the inaugural The Phoenix."

Sunday's all-important box draw will take on a Cox Plate feel where connections will be able to decide their box from what's remaining during the random ballot.

The race can't be won on Sunday but it can be lost.
