Wynburn Sheean Stamps Himself A Star On The Rise

BEN Englund says he’s struggling to find a chink in the armor of Wynburn Sheean after his sublime 25.41 qualy trial in the Breeders’ Classic at Devonport.

BEN Englund says he's struggling to find a chink in the armor of Wynburn Sheean after the son of Aston Dee Bee recorded a sublime 25.41 in a qualifying trial of the Breeders' Classic at Devonport on Saturday.

The dazzling time was only a whisker outside the slashing 25.40 he posted at the venue to win on debut over the 452 metres last month before going on to win two of his next three appearances.

His aggregate winning margin in those three wins – 25 lengths.

"He's very exciting … one right out of the box," Englund said.

"We bought him off David Booth when he was 18 months old and didn't pay a lot for him. He was showing a bit at the time but has just kept improving since.

"Some of the times and sectionals he's run just leave you shaking your head. His sectionals on Saturday were phenomenal – that 12.48 second section, they just don't run that."

Wynburn Sheean is quickly becoming the flag-bearer for a hugely talented Aston Dee Bee and She's All Class litter which have won 21 of their first 54 race appearances.

And according to Englund, the immensely talented 23-month-old only continues to improve.

"I've been trying to find a negative with him but I haven't found one yet," Englund said.

"We've had some really good dogs but at the same stage nothing better than him. He's a complete professional and all he wants to do is chase the lure.

"At home you wouldn't know he's there. He's clean, doesn't carry on and travels great. He's just a mad chaser – the best chaser I've had.

"He's had a rap on him for a while because he'd trial the best of every trial session he'd go around at. His second go at Launceston he almost broke the 278m record and he's a five flat dog from the 515m.

"He's got great early speed and it looks like 500 metres isn't going to be a worry either – he looks the complete package. If there was one little thing is that he isn't hitting the lids perfect. But that will come with experience.”

Wynburn Sheean powers into next Tuesday's semi-finals of the Breeders' Classic as the fastest qualifier following Saturday's sizzling 25.41 display.

Second quickest of the 16 qualifying trials was litter-brother Highland Chief in 25.55 for David Crosswell, while fellow littermates Quick Joey Small (25.69) and Highland Fame (25.96) also progressed through.

Other greyhounds to break 26 seconds were Parkour for Ted Medhurst in 25.67 while in the final qualifier, unraced pup Recall recorded 25.66 for Jack Jury.

Defeating three time race winner Vintage Fame by 3 ¾ lengths, Recall is a son of Superior Product and Princess Roman and will make his much anticipated debut in next week's semi-finals.
