The huge raps on youngster Xerri were confirmed at The Gardens on Friday, the son of Fernando Bale peeling off a flying 29.36 in a performance trial.

The huge raps on highly touted youngster Xerri were confirmed at Ladbrokes Gardens on Friday afternoon, the unraced son of Fernando Bale peeling off a flying 29.36 in a 515 metre performance trial.

Trained by Darryl Thomas, the son of Fernando Bale and Miss All Class has by all reports been burning up the tracks in recent trials, with Friday's debut public appearance more than substantiating those lofty claims.

Making the trial effort even more impressive was the fact it was on a track not conducive to overly fast times, owing to the inclement weather conditions bracing parts of NSW over the past 48 hours.

Not two until May, Xerri, named after Cronulla Sharks player Bronson Xerri, is from a hot litter, with two others in Thomas's care, Coniglio and Whitfield, recently turning in flying performance trials in their own right.

Coniglio – named after Greater Western Sydney captain Stephen Coniglio – recently posted a flying 22.06 over the 388 metres at Gosford, while Whitfield, named after Coniglio's GWS teammate Lachie Whitfield, flew over the Maitland 400 metres in 22.02.

With heats of the Group 3 Magic Maiden at Wentworth Park now just six weeks away – due to begin on March 25 – the formidable youngsters look on tilt for a potential crack at the rich Easter feature.

And while the unraced trio are setting tongues wagging, the remainder of the litter are creating a big impression also.

Ad Astra and Venom Cartel have each won their two respective race starts in brisk times, while another, Wow, is showing very good ability for trainer Karina Britton.
