Zammit Says Best Yet To Come From Valpolicella

TRAINER Tony Zammit believes there is even more improvement to come from Valpolicella as she heads towards the Group 1 Bold Trease.

PREMIER trainer Tony Zammit believes there is even more improvement to come from his exciting young staying bitch Valpolicella as she heads towards next Saturday night's Group 1 Bold Trease (715m) at Sandown.

The daughter of Shima Shine-Saldana led throughout to win her heat of the Cup on Saturday night in 41.71 beating Zoha Bale by two-and-a-half lengths.

She has come up with box two for the rich final and Zammit is happy with that.

“Yes, she does like to use a bit of the track early in her staying races,” said Tony.

“But Zoha Bale in the one does not have much speed out and the only other pace in the final is from the six and the eight.

“I'm hoping out bitch can improve again and then hold out that speed from out wide.”

Valpolicella, winner now of 17 races and $144,000, was having her first race at Sandown.

“She stayed in Melbourne with my brother Michael after she ran in the Topgun  Stayers,” said Tony.

“Then she had a 595 metre trial at Sandown to prep her for the heats.

“Saturday night was her first run from the 700 boxes so you would think there is improvement to come from her for the final.

“She will know that track now.

“It is also the first time she has led like that in a distance race.

“Yes, the draw suits her.”

Moraine Suzie ran 41.69 the quickest of the four heats, while Get Ready Dora ran 42.08 and Mrs Avenger 41.76.
