Zipping Whiskey One To Beat In Dashing Corsair

TALENTED NSW visitor Zipping Whiskey is the one to beat in next week's engrossing Group 3 Dashing Corsair (710m) Final at Albion Park.

NSW visitor Zipping Whiskey is the one to beat in next week's Group 3 Dashing Corsair (710m) Final at Albion Park.

That piece of advice comes from rival trainer Tom Tzouvelis, a keen student of form who will run Jimmy Intention in the $60,000-to-the-winner final next Thursday.

Zipping Whiskey, from the Mick Hardman kennel, was impressive when winning his Dashing Corsair heat in 42.09, scoring by three lengths over She's In Clover and Jimmy Intention.

“Mick's dog was the most impressive in the heats,” said Tzouvelis. “He copped a check at the 600 metre boxes or he was going to win by further and in quicker time.”

Jimmy Intention has drawn the rails in the final for Tzouvelis and he is happy about that.

“Suits him perfectly,” he said.

“I tried to buy him from Todd O'Neill in Victoria but he did not want to sell.

“But Todd sent him to me to train and he has won about $50,000 since he has been here.”

Zipping Whiskey went into the Dashing Corsair heat not having raced since finishing fourth to Zipping Orlando in The 715 at The Gardens on  May 6 beaten just two lengths.

“You would think he would be the big improver,” said Tom of Zipping Whiskey.

Jedda Cutlack's Sorority bounced back from “a belting” when seventh to Nangar Rocket at Albion Park on May 25 to turn the tables on that dog in her heat.

Sorority ran 42.09 to beat Play Nice and Nangar Rocket.

“The wide draw (seven) will not help her but it was great to see her bounce back and win,” said Tzouvelis.

“She will be a big improver as well but the draw means she will struggle to get across.”

Ryan Ayre's Bogie Hurricane continued his great 710m form winning the other heat in 42.23 beating Spot On Harper and Wendy Rocks.

G3 Dashing Corsair (710m) in box draw: 1 Jimmy Intention, 2 Spot On Harper, 3 Bogie Hurricane, 4 Play Nice, 5 She's In Clover, 6 Zipping Whiskey, 7 Sorority, 8 Wendy Rocks. Res: 9 Nangar Rocket, 10 Targod Shirley.

MICK and Selena Zammit's superstar, Jay Is Jay, continued on his winning way when beating Cash Master and Shipwreck in a Brisbane Cup Prelude running 29.73.

The race was an epic confrontation between two stars of the track with Cash Master holding his ground on the rails and Jay Is Jay forced to sit outside him until the home turn when he got to the lead.

It was indeed “a big run” … but by both dogs.
